West Bend (19-3-0) hosted Fox Cities (10-11-0) on Friday night. It was the second matchup this season between the two teams as Fox Cities took game one up in Appleton back in January. West Bend was missing two of their top scorers in this game in Dan Shilts and Tanner Tryggestad. West Bend played with two centers, two left wingers, and alternated three right wingers with their short bench.
Shay Klitzke opened up the scoring for West Bend five minutes into the first period on his first of three goals on the night. Scott Holtz followed up three minutes later with a power play goal and his first of three on the night. Fox Valley would tie up the game before the end of the period after getting goals from forwards Matt Hughes and Peter Eloranta. West Bend added on three more goals in the second period from Shay Klitzke, Marshall Klitzke, and Scott Holtz.
Fox Cities goaltender Drew Chaney suffered an injury towards the end of the second period and was forced to keep playing as Fox Cities did not have a backup. Chaney has played in all of Fox Cities’ games this season as he is their only goalie. He allowed six goals in the third period as Scott Holtz and Shay Klitzke completed their hattricks along with goals from defender Jared Lucas and forwards Dusty Jonasson and R.J. Rick.
West Bend goaltender Billy Sias stopped 32 of 34 shots and earned his eighth victory of the season. Chaney stopped 32 of 43 shots for Fox Cities.
West Bend also defeated Depere 6-5 Saturday night on the road improving their winning streak to 10 games. Peter Wisnieff earned his 30th career win as a member of West Bend. He stopped 23 of 28 shots. Shay Klitzke had 2 goals and 3 assists against Depere and Russell Johnson added 2 goals and 2 assists as well. West Bend now has 38 points and has a solid grip on first place.
