Bombers Defeat Ice Dogs, Clinch 4th Consecutive League Title

West Bend (22-3-0) hosted Fox Cities (11-13-0)  on Saturday night with the opportunity to clinch their fourth consecutive division title. West Bend defeated Fox Cities by the score of 8-2. West Bend’s record in their four year run is (82-14-1). West Bend now has clinched the #1 seed in the tournament where they will be in a pool with the #6 and #9 seeds. West Bend hosts the GLHL tournament for the first time in franchise history from March 31st through April 2nd.

Scott Holtz opened up the scoring a little over a minute into the first period on his first of two goals on the night. Fox Valley responded 40 seconds later with a goal of their own from forward Nick Janssen. West Bend forward Evan Wilson scored his 6th goal of the season at the halfway point of the period to give West Bend the lead. West Bend forward Steve Klug tipped in an RJ Rick snapshot for his 5th goal of the season to make it 3-1 with eight minutes to go in the period. Russell Johnson and Scott Holtz added two more goals to make it 5-1 for West Bend. Fox Valley added their second goal late in the period from Nick Janssen once again.

After seven goals in the first period not a single goal was scored in the second. No penalties were taken either in a very uneventful period. Both goalies combined for 30 saves in the second. West Bend added three more goals in the third period from Scott Holtz, Russell Johnson, and forward Steve Buda. Buda, known more for his physical presence, received a pass from Jeff Krueger and chipped in his second goal of the season. After taking no penalties as a team the entire game, Buda dropped the gloves with Fox Valley enforcer Dominic White. The two of them exchanged five or six punches before Buda lost his edge and was dropped to the ice by White. Both players were given ten minute misconducts and were ejected from the game.

West Bend goaltender Peter Wisnieff earned his 6th victory of the season as he stopped 28 of 30 shots. Fox Valley netminder Drew Chaney stopped 49 of 57 West Bend’s shots.

Fox Valley hosted West Bend on friday night where West Bend left with a victory defeating Fox Valley 9-1. Forwards Tanner Tryggestad and Russell Johnson had five points each. West Bend had eight players with multi-point games. Billy Sias earned his 10th victory of the season as he stopped 43 of 44 shots.
